VIII. JOSEPH NELSON CAVERLY 1857 - 1938

Fred and EmmaFred and Emma Caverly Feb. 14, 1918 Jos. Thomas Caverly 1940 Joseph and Annie’s second son was Fredrick Hugh who was born Aug. 23, 1891 in Huron Co., MI and was rather sickly as a child. He married Emma Barnum on Feb. 14, 1918 in Prescott, MI. She was born Aug. 8, 1901 in Ingersol, Ontario and is pictured to the left with the dog on her lap. The 1927 city directory for Saginaw, MI shows Fred and Emma living at 323 Russell St. and Fred working as a laborer. He later had a farm on the corner of Sage Lake Rd. and M55 in Ogemaw Co., MI. Fredrick died Aug. 5, 1934 of pulmonary tuberculosis having had it for 2 years. Emma died Jan. 15, 1936. They are buried at the Logan Cemetery in Ogemaw Co., MI.

Fred and Emma’s firstborn died at birth on Sept. 1, 1918 in Battle Creek per Calhoun Co., MI birth record in Libre 6, page 207. No name was given.

Their next child was Wanetta Violet who was born Oct. 13, 1919 in Iosco Co., MI. She married Walter Buck on April 24, 1948 in Hale, MI. Walter was working as a logger when he met Wanetta.. Later he worked for Saginaw Graphite until he retired at age 65 and then moved back to Hale. They had four children: Frank, Russell, Wesley, and Merry who was stillborn. Walt’s sister, Walter, and Wanetta are pictured below with the snazzy 1948 Chevy. Wanetta died Feb. 14, 1980 and Walter died July 3, 1993.

Fred and Emma’s first son was Joseph Thomas. He was born Sept. 22, 1921 in Whittemore, MI. He married Bertha Bowlsby on May 5, 1940 in Whittemore, MI. They had 4 children: Frederick Edward, Duane, Barton, and Linda.

Joseph Thomas retired from National Gypsum. He enjoyed hunting and took special pleasure in his pony team which he used in parades, sometimes dressing himself as Santa Claus. He died on Feb. 3, 1984 at the Univ. of Mich. Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Fred and Emma had 3 other children: Fred Barton , Francis Velma, and Alex Hugh. They all still live in the Whittemore, MI area.

Joseph and Annie had a third son. Russell Alexander was born Aug. 23, 1900 and died July 21, 1901 of spasmodic croup per Iosco County, MI records.
