X. CLARENCE LLEWELLYN CAVERLY 1898 - 1966

cultivated by noncombatant citizens for the temporary increase of domestic food production. Clarence bought property on the west side of Saginaw to grow a Victory Garden. Several years later when he had decided to sell the property, he was seen showing it to a colored gentleman. The neighbors in the area, not wanting colored ![]() people to move into their neighborhood, banded together and bought the lot. Clarence had worked as a coresetter at Grey Iron Foundry and took early retirement in 1954 due to a previous stroke and ill health. To keep busy and for extra income after retirement, he collected old newspapers, rolled them up into six to eight inch logs, and sold them to Stevens Van Lines. They used them for packing.
