VI. PHILIP CAVERLY, JR. 1788 - 1860 It is not known with certainty whether Philip’s wife Maria died before or after the move to Canada. But around 1849 Philip married a young lady named Jane Green who was about 20 years old (younger than some of his children by Maria). With her he had daughters Mary Jane, Electa A., and Nancy Elizabeth who was born 6 months after Philip died. He died in April 1860 and left everything to Jane except 5 shillings (about $1) to each of his grown children by his first wife. In the 1850s he had sold acreage to all his sons except Joseph, and held their mortgage. On Sept. 14, 1869, Jane Caverly, widow married James U. Wright, widower, Vol. 1, pg. 193 of Schedule of Marriages for Hastings Co., Ontario. Philip and Jane’s daughter Mary Jane married William Green, son of William and Hulda, on Nov. 28, 1894 in Stirling, Hastings Co., Ontario, Sch. B-Marriages, pg. 382, #004970. Daughter Electa Ann married Andrew Merriman, son of Jessey and Mary Ann, on Nov. 6, 1883 at Rawdon, Ontario Marr. Record #4452-83, Hastings Co. They moved to Wisconsin in 1884 and settled in Belle Plaine Town, Shawano County. The youngest daughter Nancy Elizabeth married George F. Drewry on Mar. 23, 1881. They remained in the area and are buried in the Stirling Cemetery in Section J across from half brother Jonas. Above is a picture of her celebrating her 90th. birthday party in 1950. She died in Belleville, Ontario on Aug. 24, 1955. Below is Jonas Caverly (a son by Maria) and his family. He and his brother Charles H. bought land in Section 23 of Bingham Twp., Huron County, MI in the 1860s. Jonas bought 80 acres in 1867 for $200 but never moved to Michigan. Jonas sold that land in 1870 for $500. Charles who had moved his family and settled in Sections 20 and 22 of the same place died in 1869. michigan@thecaverlys.com Page 1, 2 If you would like to view the PDF format click here
